Frequently Asked Questions

How do you ensure the health and well-being of your Maine Coon kittens?
The health and happiness of our Maine Coon kittens are at the very heart of everything we do. From the moment they arrive, each kitten is raised with careful attention, love, and respect. We follow strict, ethical breeding protocols and partner with trusted veterinarians to provide exceptional care. Every kitten undergoes thorough health screenings and receives age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and microchipping before they leave us. Our goal is to ensure each little one is strong, thriving, and ready to begin a beautiful life with their new family.
What kind of support and guidance do you offer to new Maine Coon owners?
Welcoming a new kitten is a joyful and unforgettable experience—but it can also bring questions and uncertainties. At Indiana Giant Maine Coons, we are committed to being more than just your breeder; we are your partner throughout this journey. We offer ongoing support, guidance, and encouragement to help you feel confident and prepared. Whether you need advice on care, behavior, or simply reassurance, we are always here to help ensure a smooth transition and a loving bond between you and your new companion.
Where are you located?
We are located just 15 minutes southeast of Indianapolis—close enough for convenience, yet tucked away in a peaceful, cozy setting our cats call home.
Can we come to your cattery to meet the parents and kittens?
Because the safety and well-being of our cats is our highest priority, we operate as a closed cattery. This protects our home, our animals, and the families we serve from unnecessary risks such as illness or potential security concerns. While we cannot welcome visitors inside, we make sure you still feel connected to your future kitten. We provide weekly photos, a 24/7 live stream and are always happy to schedule FaceTime calls as often as you’d like so you can watch your little one grow. Kitten delivery will be done in our home.
Do you offer breeding rights?
Breeding rights are offered on a very limited basis and only to well-established, ethical, registered catteries whose values, care practices, and long-term goals closely align with our own. Our foremost priority is the well-being of our kittens and the thoughtful preservation of the breed. Breeding placements are made with care and intention, with the expectation that each kitten will be raised responsibly and contribute positively to the future of the breed we cherish.
Is there a health guarantee if I purchase a kitten?
Yes. We proudly offer a two-year health guarantee. Should your kitten develop a life-threatening congenital defect within the first two years, we will provide a replacement kitten or refund the purchase price. We ask that all new families maintain appropriate veterinary care and vaccinations to protect their kitten’s long-term health and well-being.
Are your kittens microchipped?
Absolutely. Every kitten goes home microchipped with AKC Reunite, including lifetime registration. For added peace of mind, our cattery remains listed as a secondary contact, ensuring your kitten is never without a safety net should they ever become lost.
What is AKC Reunite Package?
Our AKC Reunite Package includes: INDIGO ISO+ microchip Plastic collar tag Adhesive microchip ID labels Unlimited access to the Pet Poison Helpline (a $59-per-incident value) Lifetime recovery service enrollment at no additional cost for as long as ownership remains unchanged This package gives new families added confidence and protection from day one.
Choosing Your New Kitten/Reservation Order/Deposit
Your journey begins with a simple online application, followed by a relaxed video call so we can get to know each other and make sure we’re a great fit. Once those two steps are complete, a $100 non-refundable waitlist deposit is required to join our approved waiting list. This small deposit helps keep our waitlist accurate and fair by ensuring it’s made up of families who are truly ready and excited to move forward. The $100 waitlist deposit: Shows genuine interest and readiness Helps us keep our waitlist active and organized Reserves your place on the approved waiting list Is fully applied toward the final purchase price of your kitten Non-refundable does not mean non-transferable. If your timing changes, your waitlist deposit may be transferred to a future litter with communication. Reserving Your Kitten When kittens reach approximately 4–6 weeks of age, we’ll email everyone on the waiting list to let you know that reservation deposits are open. At that time: Families will have 3 days to submit a reservation deposit and secure their place Deposits received within that window determine the picking order Deposits received after the 3-day window are still welcome, but those families will be placed at the end of the selection order This process helps keep things fair, transparent, and stress-free for everyone involved.
Why is there a Waitlist deposit?
Due to the high demand for our kittens, our approved waitlist often fills quickly. When that happens, we must begin turning away other qualified families who are genuinely ready and excited to move forward. Over time, we’ve learned that without a small commitment, many people join the waitlist “just in case.” As months pass, some stop responding, delay indefinitely, or ask to be removed — after we’ve already declined other families in good faith. To keep our process fair and intentional, we require a $100 non-refundable waitlist deposit. This deposit helps ensure that: Families on the waitlist are truly serious and prepared Our waitlist remains accurate, active, and manageable We can be fair to both families currently on the list and those reaching out later This deposit is not a fee to buy a kitten, and it is not about profit. It’s a way to protect the integrity of our program, our time, and the families who are genuinely committed. Once approved and placed on the waitlist: Your spot on the approved waitlist is reserved We can plan responsibly for upcoming litters Communication stays clear and consistent on both sides The $100 waitlist deposit is fully applied toward the final balance of your kitten once you are matched. Non-refundable does not mean non-transferable — if your timing changes, your deposit may be transferred to a future litter with communication. We value transparency, respect, and responsible placement, and this small deposit helps us uphold those standards for everyone involved.
Do you offer Facetime/video calls?
Yes! We love sharing your kitten’s milestones with you. We happily schedule FaceTime or video calls not only during the interview process but throughout your kitten’s time with us. You’ll also receive regular photos so you can watch your little one grow until they’re ready to come home.
What veterinary do you use?
We entrust the health of our animals to Hillview Veterinary in Franklin, Indiana. Their dedication, compassion, and expertise—especially from Dr. Clarke and Dr. Blair—have made them an invaluable part of our extended family. They know our cats well and support us in providing the highest standard of care.
How Big Will Our Kitten Get?
Maine Coons are a slow-maturing breed, and adult size varies by genetics, sex, and individual development. In healthy adult condition, females from our lines commonly mature in the 10–18 lb range, while males often reach 16–22+ lbs. We breed with CFA and TICA standards in mind, which emphasize balance, structure, and overall quality rather than extreme or exaggerated size. Maine Coons may take 3–5 years to reach full size and substance, and we prioritize steady, natural growth and correct conformation to ensure long-term health and temperament. *Adult size cannot be guaranteed, as recognized by CFA and TICA; listed ranges reflect typical outcomes from our breeding program.
Why don’t you guarantee adult size?
Adult size in Maine Coons depends on many factors, including genetics, sex, growth rate, and natural development. CFA and TICA breed standards emphasize balance, structure, and overall quality rather than guaranteed weight or extreme size. Because Maine Coons mature slowly—often taking 3–5 years to fully develop—it isn’t responsible or accurate to promise exact adult measurements. Instead, we focus on steady, healthy growth, correct conformation, and temperament, which are the true indicators of a well-bred Maine Coon. Guaranteeing size often encourages unhealthy feeding practices, which we do not support.
