Our Maine Coon Kitten Buying Process
Our Maine Coon kitten buying process is designed to be transparent, ethical, and stress-free for both our kittens and their future families. We carefully screen applicants to ensure our kittens are placed in the best possible homes.
Step 1: Submit an Application
To be considered for a kitten, a completed application must be submitted and approved.
Step 2: Join the Approved Waiting List
After we receive your application, you will schedule a video call via Google Meet from available times and dates from our calendar. This allows us to get to know you, answer any questions, and ensure our kittens are placed in the best possible homes.
Once your application is approved, your name will be added to our approved waiting list.
Step 3: Litter Reservation Deposit
Once your application and required video call have been completed and approved, you will be added to our general waitlist. There is no deposit required simply to remain on the general waitlist.
When we are ready to begin accepting reservations for a specific litter, everyone on the waitlist will be notified by email in advance. That email will include the date and time reservations will open, along with any important details about the upcoming litter.
Reservation opportunities will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis once the announced reservation period opens. To keep the process as fair as possible, only responses received after reservations officially open will be considered.
If you are selected for an available reservation spot, you will be contacted promptly and required to submit a non-refundable $100 litter reservation deposit to secure your place for that specific litter.
The general waitlist does not guarantee a kitten or reservation spot. It ensures that you receive notification when upcoming litter reservations become available and gives every approved family the same opportunity to respond when reservations open.
The Litter Reservation deposit is fully applied toward the final purchase price of your kitten
Non-refundable does not mean non-transferable. If your timing changes, the litter reservation deposit may be transferred to a future litter with communication.
Step 4: Reserving Your Specific Kitten
When the kittens reach approximately 4–6 weeks of age, families who have secured a litter reservation will be contacted as we begin the process of reserving specific kittens.
Once you select and reserve your kitten, an additional $1,000 non-refundable specific-kitten reservation deposit is required within 3 days to secure that kitten.
The earlier $100 litter reservation deposit and the $1,000 specific-kitten reservation deposit are both applied toward the final purchase price of your kitten.
If your circumstances or timing change, reservation deposits may be transferred to a future litter with communication and approval.
Placement Approval & Breeder Discretion
We carefully consider every placement with the health, safety, and long-term well-being of our kittens in mind. Indiana Giant Maine Coons reserves the right to decline an application or discontinue a placement at any stage if we determine that the placement is not the right fit for the kitten or our breeding program.
If we make the decision to discontinue a placement after a deposit has been paid, all deposits paid toward that kitten will be refunded in full.
Maine Coon Kitten Going-Home Age & Pickup
Our Maine Coon kittens go to their new homes no earlier than 14 weeks of age. This additional time allows them to continue developing physically and socially while remaining with their mother, littermates, and our family.
At approximately 12 weeks of age, we will contact you to begin coordinating your kitten’s pickup appointment.
Families will have up to 2 weeks to arrange pickup. If additional time is needed beyond the agreed pickup window, a boarding fee of $50 per week may be added to the remaining balance at our discretion.
Cattery Visit Policy
For the health, safety, and security of our cats, kittens, and family, Indiana Giant Maine Coons operates as a closed cattery prior to reservation. We do not offer general cattery visits or in-home visits before a specific kitten has been reserved.
Once you have reserved a specific Maine Coon kitten, we are happy to welcome you for a scheduled visit when your kitten is approximately 8–10 weeks old and has received their first vaccination.
All visits are scheduled in advance so we can maintain a calm, healthy environment for our cats and kittens. Final kitten pickup also takes place at our home by scheduled appointment.
Spay/Neuter Requirement Through SpaySecure
All companion kittens are placed with a separate spay/neuter agreement administered through SpaySecure.
Under this agreement, kittens must be spayed or neutered by 9 months of age, unless an approved extension is granted.
SpaySecure manages the agreement process, including reminders, deadline tracking, and submission of proof of sterilization. This helps us maintain clear records and protect the integrity of our breeding program.
Kittens placed with approved breeding rights are handled separately and are not subject to the companion spay/neuter requirement.
